sultanbeyli istanbul

The history of Sultanbeyli dates back to the early 6th century. It remained under the Roman and Byzantine Empire for many years. Sultanbeyli was conquered by the Ottoman Army under the command of Abdurrahman Gazi and Konur Alp on the order of Orhan Gazi in 1328. After the conquest, Abdurrahman Gazi married the daughter of the Tekfur of Aydos Castle. This marriage has left traces that have not been erased from the memories of both Turks and Greeks for a long time. The ruins of Aydos Castle still exist, bearing the traces of this memory. There is also information about Sultanbeyli in famous works such as Tevarihi Ali Osman and Kitab’ı Cihannüma.

The main owner of the lands in Sultanbeyli is Hasan Hüsnü Paşaş, the first Minister of Maritime Affairs of the Ottoman Empire. ABDULHAMID II gave Hasan Hüsnü Pasha the Sultan Beyliği Farm as a reward for his services to him. This historical fact is revealed in the Ottoman map made by Hasan Pasha in 1910. When Hasan Hüsnü Pasha died in 1922, the deeds of these lands owned by his son passed into the hands of a Jew named Frans Flipson, and were sold by Frans Flipson’s heirs to today’s shareholders. In addition, immigrants from Bulgaria were settled in 1945 and they were not given title deeds but were given possession. In 1945, 7500 acres of land in Sultanbeyli was expropriated and distributed to these immigrant citizens.

In 1957, the Forestry Administration took 18000 acres of land out of the forest boundaries. When Hasan Hüsnü Pasha, the owner of the lands in Sultanbeyli in the last days of the Ottoman Empire, died in 1922, the deeds of these lands passed into the hands of a Jew named Franz Flipson, and were sold to today’s shareholders by the heirs of this person. Immigrants from Bulgaria settled in this area in 1947. It became a village in 1957, a town in 1989 and a district with the law dated 03.06.1992 and numbered 3806. It is located on the Anatolian side of Istanbul, its height from the sea is 130 meters, its surface area is 35 km2. It fills the area between Mount Aydos, the highest mountain of Istanbul at 537 altitude, and Mount Teferrüç, and the Tem Highway passes through the middle of the district. The district is surrounded by Paşaköy – Samandıra of Kartal District in the north, south and west and Kurtköy of Pendik District in the east and has 15 neighborhoods.
