Located approximately 60 km northeast of Doğubayazıt in Ağrı Province, Balık Lake (Balık Gölü) is one of Turkey’s highest freshwater lakes, sitting at an elevation of 2,241 meters (7,352 feet) above sea level. Surrounded by rolling mountains and pristine highland landscapes, the lake is a peaceful destination for nature lovers, photographers, birdwatchers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
A Beautiful Mountain Lake

Winter at Balık Lake

Despite the harsh weather conditions, local fishermen continue their traditional way of life by cutting holes through the ice to catch the lake’s famous trout—a practice that has been carried on for generations.
