Standing proudly on the waterfront of Çanakkale, Çimenlik Castle, also known as Sultan Castle (Çimenlik Kalesi), is one of the city’s most iconic historical landmarks. Built in the 15th century by Sultan Mehmed II (Mehmed the Conqueror), the fortress gave its name to the settlement that later developed into the modern city of Çanakkale.
