History
The lands that now form Bahcelievler have been inhabited since ancient times and were historically part of the fertile countryside surrounding Constantinople. During the Byzantine period, the area was an important agricultural region supplying food to the imperial capital. It also lay along the main overland route connecting Constantinople with Thrace and the Balkans, making it strategically significant for trade and military movements.
Numerous imperial estates, churches, monasteries, and rural residences once stood in the area. Stone quarries in the region supplied building materials for the construction and maintenance of Constantinople’s famous defensive walls.
Following the Ottoman conquest of Istanbul in 1453, much of the area continued to be used for agriculture, orchards, and grazing land. Large estates owned by the Imperial Treasury (Hazine-i Hassa) dominated the landscape until the late Ottoman period, when many properties were gradually sold for private development.
Modern urbanisation accelerated during the Republican era with the construction of major highways. The former London Road (Londra Asfaltı) became an important transportation corridor, while the D-100 (E-5) Highway, completed during the 1960s, stimulated rapid residential, commercial, and industrial growth.

One of the district’s most important historical monuments is the Siyavuş Paşa Pavilion (Siyavuş Paşa Kasrı), located within National Sovereignty Park (Milli Egemenlik Parkı).
