History
The history of Esenler stretches back to the Byzantine Empire, when the area was occupied by two agricultural villages known as Litros and Avas. Following the Ottoman conquest of Istanbul in 1453, the villages continued to prosper as farming communities while remaining important suppliers of agricultural products to the growing imperial capital.

During the 1930s, the villages received their present Turkish names. Litros became Esenler, while Avas was renamed Atışalanı. These communities gradually expanded as Istanbul grew westward.
