
Ortaca is located in the east of Mugla province. It is bordered by Koycegiz to the west and north, Dalaman to the east and the Mediterranean Sea to the south. The main highway between Mugla and Fethiye passes through the north of the district. After Milas, Fethiye, Marmaris and Bodrum in Mugla Province, where 13 districts are connected, Ortaca is a place where social and cultural activities are intense. Ortaca has an extremely fertile plain due to both climate and soil structure. Until the 1980s, its main product was cotton, but today pomegranates, oranges and tangerines are the most important fruits it grows.
Ortaca city center is not very interesting in terms of tourism. Agriculture, trade, and small industry ensure the vitality of the city’s economy. Two important tourism centers such as Dalyan and Sarigerme are within the borders of Ortaca. It is located in the middle of Dalaman and Köyceğiz. Both Sargırme and Dalyan are very close to Ortaca.
It is 15 minutes away from Ortaca city center and Sarigerme Beach, Aşı Bay Beach and Iztuzu Beach, 30 minutes away from Dalaman Stream rafting center, and 15 km from Dalaman Airport. There are daily trips to Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Antalya by land.
The district has many important places in terms of tourism. Dalyan is a neighborhood within the boundaries of the district. The Koycegiz – Dalyan Lagoon system is a natural wonder consisting of lakes and canals decorated with reeds. It is a habitat with great biodiversity as well as beauty. The ancient city of Kaunos rising from the delta, the tombs of the kings adorning the slopes, and the Caretta Carettas laying eggs on Iztuzu Beach make the district an even more special place.
One of the most distinctive features of Ortaca is; Compared to other touristic areas, life in the district is cheap. For this reason, people from neighboring districts and towns come to Ortaca for shopping. In fact, workers, civil servants and citizens working in other districts and towns other than Ortaca prefer their homes from Ortaca and live here.
From Ortaca city center, you can reach Sarigerme Beach, Aşı Bay Beach and Iztuzu Beach in 15 minutes. In 30 minutes, you can reach the plateaus or the center where rafting is done on the Dalaman Stream. From Dalaman Airport, which is 15 km away from Ortaca, to Istanbul and Ankara; Daily trips to Izmir and Antalya can be made by land.
On boat tours departing from Dalyan or Marmaris, Aşı and Bakardi bays are visited in the direction of Dalaman, and the bays in the bay of Ekincik, especially Semizce Bay, are visited on the Ekincik side. There are also moonlight tours departing from Dalyan at night, when the moon is full. On the departing areas of Dalyan, you can wander around the canals, then go to Iztuzu beach and the sea. The tour is musical and fun. Those who wish can also immerse themselves in the waters playing with the light of the moon.
