Çankırı is a province located in the Central Anatolia Region of Turkey. Located in the north of Central Anatolia, between Kızılırmak and the main basins of the Western Black Sea, Çankırı is located between 40° 30′ and 41º north latitudes and 32° 30′ and 34º east longitudes. It is surrounded by the provinces of Bolu in the west, Karabük in the northwest, Kastamonu in the north, Çorum in the east, and Ankara and Kırıkkale in the south. Its height from the sea is 730 meters and it has a total area of 7,388 km², which constitutes 0.94% of the country’s territory.

Mountaineering and Winter Tourism: Mount llgaz has 1088 hectares of important resources for the transition zone from Central Anatolia to the Black Sea, allowing travel, research, hiking, mountaineering, picnics, winter sports and other activities. Located at an altitude of 1800 m, Ilgaz Mountain Doruk Mevkii attracts the attention of tourists with its rich nature, wildlife and winter sports opportunities. The Council of Ministers declared a region on Ilgaz Mountain, including Doruk Mevkii on the Shankaril-Kastamonu border, as a “winter sports tourism center”.

There are 230 cultural assets throughout the province, and among the archaeological sites dated to the Roman and Byzantine Periods and registered by the Ankara Regional Board for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Heritage, those located in the central district; Çorakyers Miocene Sediments, Garrison Martyrdom, Alaçat Village Kültepe Ancient Settlement and Necropolis Area, Balıbağ Village Sarıiçi Mevkii, Güvey Hill Mound, Urban Protected Area, Ünir Village Mound and Necropolis Area, İnandıktepe Mound and Ancient Settlement.
